Food Scout @ Tian Xia, Balakong, Kuala Lumpur

So, many of you have probably tried out this oddly unique restaurant located within a Buddhist temple, we are NOT directing this message to you!

Alright we're kidding. Read it if you please :)

Pumpkin Tofu

Well, as per the name of the above-shown dish, these dandy soft bean curd are cooked with enoki mushrooms and pumpkin sauce. We ordered the small portion; and the dish was literally really small. As it was the first dish being served to us; the whole thing was finished within seconds!

Dish Rating : 4/10

Despite all 3 of us didn't think this dish stood out amongst the other 3 dishes we had ordered (which you're about to find out in a bit), TK gave it a 6 out of 10. She's outnumbered.

It's okay TK, we love you anyway.

Next dish,

Pork Knuckle

Served with some really black I-don't-know-what-but-it-could-be-dark-soy-sauce + oyster-sauce gravy, I personally think this dish was pretty savouring. Solely because it resembled and tasted similar to my mother's pork knuckle recipe. Oh and this is Tian Xia's best-selling dish. And also, it only comes in one size!

However on the side note, I personally think the pork knuckle was a little too fattening. Rhoda, TK and Aurelia had no special comment on this dish.

Dish Rating : 6/10

Here comes the best dish of the evening,

Chilli Padi Steamed Fish

This has won the hearts of 2 individuals out of 4 - Aurelia's and Rhoda's. For all you who crave for sour foods day and night, this is the most suitable dish for you. The steamed fish is served drenching in soup along with some spices - to which I also don't exactly know its ingredients. I only know that it was REALLY sour.

Dish Rating : 6.5/10

The final dish, holla!

Seaweed Omelette

I personally think this was the best dish among all! This dish was rather simple, as if it didn't require the chef to put in so much effort in producing this delicious dish. It was basically just eggs, a little bit of sliced onions, leek and seaweed all jumbled up together into a pile. Awesome!

As well, the trio did not have any comments on this dish.

Dish Rating : 7/10

What about the overall rating on the 4 dishes we had ordered that night?

I'd give it 5 out of 10.

The ambience of the restaurant wasn't chillingly comfortable (as opposed to its unique location of being inside a Buddhist temple). Hygiene wise............... It was okay. Bearable. Not so much to complain about. Public restrooms? I suggest you better hold your bladder and release it somewhere else. No kidding.

We hope you enjoy! Let us know about what you think of the restaurant! We'd like to know all about it :)

P/S. Service applauded.

Best Thai Food in KL @ Bluezone Pandan Perdana

This week, we decided to check out the Blue Zone Cafe @ Pandan Perdana. This place is famous for their Thai food and it was recommended by my kl friends who discovered it from a magazine.

The lake view from our seat.

We've decided to try out as many dish as possible so we actually ordered 7 dishes for the four of us. It was too much but the calories was worth it as the food was good. I totally don't mind getting fat for Thai Food's sake!

Kangkung Belacan

The kangkung belacan here taste good but kinda costly in my opinion since our PM claimed that it's cheap. RM11

Thai-style tofu.

The Thai-style tofu on the other hand was just so-so. The seafood tofu was topped with raw onions, chili, cucumbers and coriander leaves mixed together with some Thai sweet sour sauce. Nothing special. RM9

Mantis Prawn with Salted Egg (Har gou)

This dish is a MUST TRY. The 'har gou' is coated with salted egg and fried together with curry leaves. THIS IS SUPER DUPER NICE. All of us thought that this is one of the best dish here. The 'har gou' is crispy and slightly sweet with the strong taste of salted egg and curry leaves. You wouldn't even realize that it is actually prawn until you were told. So for those who are allergic to prawns, do be careful  not to overeat this. RM18

Kam Heong See Ham (Cockles)

For the cockles lover out there, here's another version of cockles that you might want to try. The cockles here are really fresh and cooked just right with a large amount of dried shrimps to enrich the taste of the kam heong. Another bonus for this dish is that the upper shell of the cockles are actually removed and cleaned so that you can enjoy your beloved cockles HASSLE-FREE. Worth a try! RM10

Stir-fry Pork Maw & Intestines with Dried Shrimps

Ahh yess. I am definitely a big fan of this Stir-fry Pork Maw & Intestines (Shang Cheong). The intestines and pork maw is cleaned and stir-fried with a generous amount of shrimps and chili giving the dish a chewy and rich texture. A must try if you are a shang cheong lover like me. RM15

                                                                   Thai BBQ Pork

Pork lovers out there! Who doesn't love crispy juicy roasted pork!?  I LOVE roasted pork to the core of my heart. That was why we ordered this dish. However, it would be perfect if the skin was crispy enough. Nonetheless I still enjoyed! RM20

                                                                    Seafood Tom Yam

Oooohlala.. the Tom Yum here was superb! Those who prefer sour Tom Yum should definitely try this out! It's really fragrant and the taste was heavenly!  All sorts of seafood you can find inside, which includes mussels, prawns, squids, etc. RM20

The place is always packed with people during dinner. Thus it's advisable to go there early to avoid the crowd. Our dinner came up to RM110 including drinks. Overall, the food here is good with a nice ambience.

One Of The Best XO Fish Head Noodle in KL @Goon Wah Restaurant

IT'S WEEKEND!!!!! Ta-dang!! So we decided to grab some nice food and dropped by the famous XO Fish Head Noodle restaurant - Goon Wah Restaurant. Apparently the they are famous for and specializes in their Claypot XO Fish Head Noodle.

From what we understand from the staff there, the shop used to close on weekends for their catering reservations but now they have started to operate on Saturdays as well - which is indeed a good news as not everyone could travel all the way from their respective locations to have their lunch here during the weekdays.

Since there's only the 3 of us who came for the food hunt, we only ordered 3 dishes which is claimed to be pretty famous by the staffs here. The XO Fish Head Noodle is served in portions(per person) which can be classified into 1, 2 and 5 pax serving. The picture shown above is a 2 pax portion which was considerably big and could be shared among approximately 3 pax. I personally think that this dish here tasted much better compared to other famous fish head noodle (Win soon and Woo Pin) except for the fact that the supposedly XO taste is no where to be savour in the dish. The fish head noodles is served together with salted vegetable, fried yam, tomato, fried fish head and etc. The milkish-like soup and the springy noodle is worth a try if you are craving for a decent food. And as for the soup lovers you would be thrilled to find that - the soup here is refillable!!! FOC!!!!

The Claypot Lou Shu Fan here is another signature dish. The lou shu fan is served on a wooden-candlelit-stove and topped with lots of minced meat, dried shrimp, scrambled egg and lard. My friends thought that it actually tasted better than the XO fish head noodles but for me this is not my preference of claypot lou shu fan. Nevertheless it's still worth a try =)

The Stir-fry Pork Maw & Intestine with dried shrimp was cleanly done but the taste was just so-so. Definitely not the best. Do remember to toss it evenly before you eat to get better taste.

The shop is always packed with customers during lunch hours but rest assured that their service here is really fast. Our lunch came up to RM52 for the 3 orders above including drinks. Overall, the shop is pretty clean with quick service and decent food.
